Hi All,
I came across a tip I found online, and thought I would share it.
Most domestic ovens cap the oven temperature at around 550F. Considerably less than the temperatures reached in a BIR tandoor, when cooking naans and tikka. Self-cleaning ovens clean by raising the temperature to around 900F (and effectively incinerate any bits in the oven). For safety reasons, the oven doors lock when in cleaning mode.
The tip I found was to remove the latch, giving you the ability to cook on the clean mode, and reach tandoor like temperatures. I did this today, by simply twisting it off with a vice grip. It took 30 seconds. I put in my pizza stone, set it on clean for about an hour while I knocked up some naan dough. When I opened the oven door, the heat was intense, but I slapped the naan onto the pizza stone. It was done in about a minute, and much more like a BIR naan than any of my previous attempts.
If you have a self-cleaning oven - give it a try - if you dare ;D

i like your thinking J but i suggest your smoke alarms are tested as pyrolytic ovens will go up to 500 degree Celsius!!
forget about your naan and be having indian style toast!
