Hi folks
Used to go to a restaurant in Hinckley in Leceistershire called the Simla.
Restaurant was top notch and the food was gorgeous.
When we used to order the pickle tray and poppodoms for starter they used to serve, what can only be described as a red powder as one of the pickle selection.
I never got round to asking them what it was but it tasted absolutely beautiful.
Anybody any idea what it might have been?

Wow! I've never heard of, let alone experienced anything like that and I've been to a fair few restaurants over the years. Do you really mean a powder? Is it dry? Is it just one colour? What does it taste like?
-
hi mate, yeah it was just like a powder. But strangely really really nice.
It had a kind of mild spicy sweet taste.
-
it also had a color that resembled Paprika?

I think you'll find that it is a dessicated coconut chutney, Monsoon our local bir here serves it up with poppadums. CQ

interesting, thanks for that.
