I have follwed recipies to the letter 1 cup wholemeal chapatti flour half cup of tepid water a pinch of salt and a couple of drops of oil. I can't get the dough properly it sticks to the rolling pin and board (which I have floured), I have tried seieved and unseived flour, with and without the drops of oil, I've spent the whole day trying but all I seem to do achieve is doughy fingers....any advice on where I'm going wrong would be great :(

erm I think she made a mistake with the measurements :P according to the comments it should be a 1/4 cup of water - that might explain your sticky fingers ;D

Are you flowering your board properly? Too much flour is a bad thing but you need to get the balance right.
Flour will only harm the bread if you work it into the chapatti. Keep your hands light and free when working it. Watch the video very carefully she explains everything in detail. Pity about the measurements, that sucks.
In short:
Flour on hands flour on board. Get the outside of the dough to feel dry but DO NOT disturb what you are rolling - Keep it one mass.
Don't lose faith - Everything can be achieved. Now then where's my curry pot for the 100th time of failing ;D
Naw still no luck, looks like I'll have to buy the buggers as usual :'(

Do you leave the dough to sit covered in the fridge for a while before using it?
