Title: Ginger leaves
Post by: Robbo141 on June 20, 2021, 05:32 PM
So my ginger root is coming along well, the stalks are almost 1m high now.  The other day I rubbed a leaf between my fingers and there was a beautiful, subtle smell to them. Kind of a mix between lemongrass and ginger.  I didn’t know this, but apparently you can cook the leaves or chop them finely for adding to salads.
Anyone got experience with this?

As you've noted Robbo, a subtler version of ginger. Dead healthy too.

Have a look at  Garden Guides (https://www.gardenguides.com/13426903-can-you-use-the-leaves-of-the-ginger-plant.html) and  this FAC (https://specialtyproduce.com/produce/Ginger_Leaves_10331.php).

Those are some really impressive looking plants. How much root are you expecting?

I reckon we will get around 1lb of ginger this year.  Will be put to good use in homemade pastes and my fave ginger martini.  Going to be a bumper crop of chilies this year too, already got a ton of jalapenos coming though.  Will post in the relevant chilli grow thread.
