Title: Sriracha chilli sauce - so disappointed - sort of!
Post by: Secret Santa on June 01, 2016, 08:52 PM: I picked up a bottle of Suree Sriracha chilli sauce in B&M today (?1.50 ish) because people have been mentioning it and I've been meaning to try it for years but just never got around to it. Well, what a disappointment! It's just a less garlicky version of Maggi garlic-chilli sauce.

The up-side is that I looooove Maggi GC sauce so the disappointment was that I should have saved my pennies and just bought the superior brand.

Using this in a curry though? Not done it and not sure I would like to. For me I think it'd be like using Mr Naga in a curry and as much as I adore that pickle I can't abide it in a curry.

Post by: Sverige on June 02, 2016, 04:22 AM: It's a bit like ketchup - anything which isn't Heinz is a pale imitation, and buying a "no name brand" sriracha then dismissing it is a bit silly. Rooster brand is the only sriracha and anything else is just jumping on the bandwagon.

So you've tasted Maggi chilli garlic sauce and can tell me that Rooster is very different then?

Post by: Sverige on June 02, 2016, 03:32 PM: We appear to be at cross purposes. I've said nothing about Maggi sauces. My point is when people talk about sriracha they are talking about the original rooster brand product, not the one you appear to have tried.

Post by: Garp on June 04, 2016, 06:45 PM: Picked up a bottle of the Flying Goose one today. First time I've tried it and did a wee taste test against the Rooster brand.

I have to say I like them both :) They're different; Rooster seems sweeter and Goose seems more garlicky. But both have a nice heat level and flavour.
