A bit of nostalgia
I dug this out of the pantry , I had it bought for me in 1979 just after I got married , probably made my first ever curry out of this , it came with the spices attached . I've eaten a lot of curries since way back then

Ah, "beef vindaloo" -- those were the days ... These days it is always badged as "lamb vindaloo" or "mutton vindaloo" but the primary ingredient is only too frequently still beef !

Ha great minds think alike I still make the occasional beef vindaloo its good for clearing a strong head cold LOL

In 1986, whilst driving the trans-Canadian highway from Guelph to Thunder Bay, I stopped overnight at a hotel that had a Chinese restaurant and ordered a chicken chow mien. I was served a chicken chop suey with a side order of crispy noodles. When I queried this, and explained that a chow mien has /soft/ noodles, the (Canadian) waiter replied "Oh, you wanted the /Chinese/ chow mien; you should have said, I gave you the /Canadian/ chow mien" ! I sent it back and ordered a steak chasseur; it was equally disgusting, their idea of a chasseur sauce being some sort of mixture of peeled plum tomatoes and onions ... Thank God Canadian cuisine has improved (slightly) since those days, 'though one still tends to find bottles of ketchup and brown sauce on the tables of even the best restaurants :o

Strange Phil, Not all chow mien's are created equal. I wonder what you would have got if you had asked for a chicken Chop Suey.? Hot and Sour Soup maybe,
