I noticed that the posting activity had seemed to have dwindled so I checked oUt the stats, unfortunately it shows that my observation is true!
Worrying times

I'm not surprised. Certain people have become dominant, supported by the present 'duty manager'. Other people, including myself, have been turned off and become bored. I've seldom looked in for several months. I decided to make my views clear a few days ago, just on the off-chance that something might be done about it, before it's too late.
-
I've been member of this forum pretty much from day one and all though I don't post anything and I hardly bother to make anything these days, I still look in from time to time just to see if there have been any major developments. I must say that I tend to agree with George, that this 'whats for dinner' nonsense has pretty much destroyed this forum.
-
I am glad i'm not the only one to notice problems.
A shame the "duty manager" has an ego problem and blames anyone that doesnt look up to him for problems instead of looking at himself and the problems that need fixing.
Annoys me because when i first joined the forum used to get loads of worth while post's daily. Now when i sign in there is no worth while acitviy

I have to agree I've been on this forum since it started and it used to be fantastic, full of recipes, ideas and good-hearted banter, but sadly that was all ruined by 'Josephine'.
I can't say how depressed it makes me looking at photos of food being cooked.

You're right Scotty this forum was much better when it was just BIR recipes. So why don't you take all your Chinese crap, put it in a bag and **** *** [moderated].

I for one, really appreciate Scotty's top notch Chinese recipes. There are of great interest, unlike photos of everyone's dinner, day after day.
-
I'm lost all interest in contributing to this forum, same people posting there standard evening meal over and over and thinking a nice close up photo makes them a chef is just a running joke to me!
Full credit to JB and CT for their consistent bir posts, without them the forum could be called "daily dinners online "
I spoke out about this thread when it first started , but my views were rebuffed back then, rip cro

Just adding to the value of the forum as there is a Chinese section and all.

Considering you have only been a member of this forum as of Today at 05:05:04 PM
You really are full of fluff aren't you?
Unless you are an active member that is not brave enough to make these comments from there actual account.

Sorry Scotty, I also forgot to mention your input and the dedicated Chinese section is great.

The Chinese section was here a long time before Scotty got here, It's always been here, which is more than you can say, Now sling your hook back to whatever stone you crawled out from under.
Thanks Scotty for your helping in keeping the Chinese section going, much appreciated

Oh happy day :)
Might as well throw my two bob's worth in to the melee.
All this animosity seems to have started after the arch-attention-seeker Madrasandy persuaded his little friend, Steven, to publicise his book on here. When the book didn't receive the out-and-out acclaim that Andy and Steve expected, they stamped their little feet and disappeared from view - no great loss in my view. I thought they may have taken that Michelin Star chef LittleChild with them, but alas no).
Still at least that leaves the front page open for others to show off their wares instead of the usual visually identical array of curries from Andy LC and CT. These three condescending twats do more to discourage new members from joining and existing members from participating more, than the Josephine thread could ever manage.
I have no issues with the Josephine thread - as someone said in another thread, this would be a very boring place if it had no social side and all we did was post a curry pic/recipe then bugger off. I, for one, quite enjoy seeing the different meals served up by my fellow forumsters. I don't eat curry every day, nor am I anal about BIR, so a little variety is welcome.
So lighten up guys and gals :)
-
Guys,I normally stay out of this rubbish but.....Let's try to be nice to each other eh? The forum is a great place for anything BIR,better than any 'authentic' cookbook that's out there at the moment.I don't care much for the non BIR posts or pictures of last night's dinner either, but if that's what people want to post then so be it.
The forum has become far from boring in the last few months,I have been given full access to a genuine BIR takeaway kitchen from which I have posted numerous recipes and observations, which I will continue to do for those who are interested in BIR cooking.Hopefully other members may get access to kitchens themselves and do the same instead of just causing arguments.
Cheers JB

I've been a bit slow on the uptake and just worked out what our new troll's user name is backwards, it what he/she talks.

Well put Sir!
I agree completely. A little Variety is a good thing and a forum needs a social aspect if you expect people to actually become engaged with the forum.
The only reason i share recipes here is because of that social aspect and the variety found. You develop connections with the forum and people and it makes you want to be a bigger part of it.
If it was just a "BIR recipe forum" With nothing else going on, i would have visited once, grabbed whatever i wanted and never returned. As i have done with many forums in the past.
As i have stated before, i am not even a fan of BIR. But i am still a regular here because of the other happenings going on and am slowly getting into the BIR scene.

LOL nice catch. Didn't notice that.
Like i mentioned, i am sure it is a regular member that isn't brave enough to speak up on there normal account.
Maybe someone already mentioned in this thread.
-
Maybe it's someone who can't use their normal account because they announced to the world they they were leaving the forum? Someone with form for using multiple usernames (Carolinareaper ring any bells??). Someone who's bessy mates with our moderator and can't stand seeing you knocking him Scott?
Hmmm.....

Jeez Garp, I never knew we were such kindred spirits. I agreed with everything you wrote and you are now officially my idol :)

Agreed, No Gut's,
I don't think that he/she/it, likes Chinese food either, or am I reading it all wrong...LOL
-
Ok, well let's take a look at the real issues here. First - if the forum users have interests in Chinese, Thai, or traditional uzbek cooking then so be it. It shouldn't be hard for anyone not interested in those areas to ignore them - heck you can even configure your profiles to ignore whole boards such as "anything other than curry" (which is where the Josephine thread is)
But.... If the non curry content is overwhelming in comparison to the BIR content then yes that should be considered a problem for a bir themed forum. BUT!!! Don't blame the Chinese chefs, etc for that. Ask why. more guys aren't documenting their curry cooking.
My opinion - this forum is excellent at retaining long term members who have seen it, done it, discussed it to death - they see no reason to keep on posting the BIR observations they were posting three years ago and they can cook just fine thank you. It's also good at attracting beginners who show up every day but rarely stuck around long. Where there is a gap is in the "middle-aged" demographic. Guys like MadrasAndy who have just aboutfigured things out and want to see nothing but BIR posts to help them fill in the gaps. It seems to drive these chaps crazy that the more experienced members' attention may have drifted.
This place is immeasurably more healthy than it was under George's inept reign. Leave it alone and it'll come good. I take my hat off to chewy tikka and jb and for sure there are many more who are cooking excellent Curries who could share their knowledge more, but that will come in time.

mmmm indeed! Sounds very plausible.
Dealing with these guys makes me feel like i am back in the school yard.
Except i cant just give them a good old fashion SLAP because they hide behind there computers.

Really!? What made you think that? :P LOL
Yep, i would hedge a bet that your correct sir!

Fellas
The Whats for dinner thread I started was to encourage members to return to the site - its like shopping in a supermarket whilst you are in there you pick up on something else -
This is still the best forum on the net for bir curry info -
I did notice that most of the criticism on this thread appears to come from members with 2 or 5 posts - unfortunately if so called long term members had contributed to this site there would certainly be a lot more debate and conversations going on.
best, Rich
-
I rarely post on BIR threads as i'm still learning, and my chilli intolerance of late has stopped me cooking a lot of BIR.
My chinese recipes still do get a lot of use and I'm glad we have a tolerant chinese section on this forum, and praise to ScottyM, Garp and others who continue to persue this cuisine.
Simple terms, if you dont like what we do here, dont participate and go elsewhere. If you do, contribute as and when you can.

Oh dear, Garp will you never learn? What have you contributed to this forum other than your sorry excuse for personal attacks on members? Is it not you who openly declared they only have respect for two members of the forum? Please do us all a favour and crawl back under your keyboard and leave the discussion to productive posting members.

You make my case for you being a condescending twat far better than I ever could - thanks. And you would be surprised how many people share my opinion.
Now hurry back up Andy's arse where you belong :)
-
How about a ceasefire like in Syria
All the people not getting on ::) ignore each other
I for one don't post to people that I think are not worth a reply
A little dust up is good now and again but in general show a bit of manners
Just keep in your own little social circles
Happy Mothers day everyone
-
Oh dear Garp, hopefully you may get banned finally for your continued personal attacks on members like myself, although my skin is far thicker than your little spiked tonuge could ever penetrate!
-
We seem to still have a good number of people on line at any one time but very few new posts, and I myself am part of it too, whats happening?
:-\
ED
-
I would think, Ed, that if you are part of it, you would be better placed to tell everyone else what is happening :)
My opinion is that certain formerly regular posters, having thrown the proverbial toys out of the pram, have buggered off for now and are plotting the downfall of CRO; almost certainly PM-Ing as many of their 'friends' as possible to ask them to do the same.
It's been quite refreshing to see some newer members' spreads on the front page recently rather than the usual pics of another red curry.
This place is all about spreading the BIR way to more and more people IMO and the lack of condescending, 'currier than thou' attitudes can only attract newer members in the long term. Surely this is better than arguing over the difference the effect of a few grains of spice powder makes in a finished dish.
Just my opinion ????
-
Far too sinister Garp
I think that last little spat on the forum done more damage than what we thought
A lot of what I call normal desent folk :) just loose a bit of energy on here
I like to poke a bit of fun but the other stuff just pisses people off
Just my opinion
-
No comment on paragraphs two and three then Michael? Or just picking out the parts which suit you.
Ziggy and Tony have posted great pictures of their BIR cooking om here, but I'm sure you would rather concentrate on the parts of my post that affect you and your chums :)
-
Did you try piccalilli instead of the Branston Garp
Mind you the piccalilli might have been a bit too spicy for you ;D
-
Bye Michael.
-
Until next time :)
They do do sweet piccalilli
But that should have been your line ;)
-
Things changed here when "professionals" came along
Suddenly there were videos and detailed instructions
All the mystery left my search, for the BIR flavour
It was all there up front and on camera
It also proved to me, that it really can't be done at home
Even after about 2 days preparation of pre cooked ingredients and base gravy
I keep it simple now, and dedicate far less time
Glasgow Recipes and JB's stuff
I posted just about everything I saw in takeaways, but it never delivered 100% for me, when I tried it at home.
The key to the flavour I still believe is the gravy, and that needs the bhajee oil
and I can't make bhajee oil
I don't cook enough to do that
Sorry I don't post like I used to, but I I don't have anything to add, at present
-
But at least when you do post Haldi, it is relevant and on topic and not simply hot air nor having a dig at a fellow member ;)
