Just been having a lot of fun reading random posts on here! Anyway, the thing that struck me was, every now & then, the price of ingredients popped up. I was just wondering how cheap/expensive it is in your part of the country for ingredients.
For example, I noticed someone say that ghee was quite dear (Newcastle I think?)
I'm in Leicester and here are a couple of examples of what we pay:
Khyber ghee 2kg ?2.25 (not too bad I think)
20 dried popadams, plain, 65 pence
Chakki Gold Elephant atta 10kg ~?3-?4 ( i need to check this)
Star anise 200g ?1.65
Rice 10kg ~?6.75 (the pretty good stuff in a cloth sack..again, i need to check brand etc)
I'll have a quick look downstairs in the morning when I'm making a batch of base to see if there are any prices on the bags of the usual suspects i.e. chilli powder, haldi, dhania etc etc. (I'm not going down now...the girlfriend will think I'm stock-taking!!! ;D ;D)
I'm just curious as to what prices evryone else pays.

Sounds about right Mark. However I have found that price labels for the same product vary, I think my local Asian store charges what he feels like at the time, so I always check.

Hej!
Was that 10Kgs of BASMATI rice? If so (and it is good quality) then that is cheap!
I like PEARL basmati rice and used it for more than 15 years. but this year went to another brand (veetee) as it was priced at less than 9 quid for a 10 Kg bag.
Not all rice is the same and when you find one that you like then stick to it!!
