Whenever Mr Waitrose is remaindering things I have never eaten before (apart from anything labelled "healthy eating" or vegetables), I like to give them a go. This week was no exception, and Mr Waitrose was kindly remaindering a tub of Ricotta, which I duly bought. Tried it when I got home, didn't think much of it, but today decided to see if it would work in a Welsh rarebit. It did not. In fact, it shewed no inclination to melt whatsoever, despite the underlying toast being nearly cremated. So I decided to nuke it. Transferred it to a microwave-safe ceramic bowl and gave it one minute on high. Well, almost. By 58 seconds the noise coming from the oven was beyond belief, so I thought I'd better interrupt the process and look to see how it was doing. Disaster. It looked as if the Ricotta bird had terminal projective diarrhoea and had shat all over the inside of the oven. Being a combination oven it was even worse, since the Ricotta was all over the heating element. Recommendation -- don't try this for yourself !

"Ey Buonanotte! Donotta microwave da ricotta!"

Si :) In the meantime I have wiped clean all accessible internal surfaces and am now attempting to burn the remainder of the ricotta (clinging to the convection element) by running the oven up to progressively higher temperatures ...
