I try not to be too hidebound with my curries, and I like to try out variations on a theme whether it's BIR, Traditional or a fusion of the two.
I liked the look of SoberRat's Dhansak pictures and recipe (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,13673.msg116284.html#msg116284), so that was enough for me to give it a go.

The verdict? Excellent curry! Nice and light and saucy, with a good mouth heat and a sideways tang from the lime juice. The chilli heat wasn't sweat-inducing, and the dish could certainly bear more burn, but I wouldn't be tempted to go for overkill on this one. Perhaps a couple of split Bird's Eye chillies would retain the freshness without overpowering the taste. I certainly enjoyed it just as it was.
I think this has just become my favourite Dhansak recipe, which is just as well as I have a second portion sitting in the fridge for tomorrow. :)
:( Just as i was contemplating going to the pub, I see this curry porn. That looks so tasty Naga. Think you have done SoberRats recipe justice there mate. The recipe is certainly getting a lot of positive feedback and is a real looker too :P
I suppose i'll now have to get the pans out and cook curry ::) No vindaloo though. The journey has hit a roadblock for the moment and i've eaten four already over the last ten days or so :D Time to be creative and start work on the chicken and meat tikka rezala ;D
Those photos look great Naga. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think a couple of little hot chillies in it would be nice and give a bit more heat while keeping the balance of the dish. Nice of you to say it's your favourite Dhansak. Did you make a single portion or did you double it up? The single portion I find is quite large anyway.
Great looking curry there Naga!

Four vindaloos in 10 days, mate? I wouldn't want to clean your cage out lol!
Nothing wrong with a Rezala - Chewy's version is on my regulars list. Nothing wrong with SoberRat's Dhansak either - very tasty indeed! Not sure it would have kept me out of the pub, mind you... :)

I thought it was a very good curry, SR. I made a double portion, but I didn't double the ingredients up. Experience (trial and error!) has taught me to increase the ingredients by only 50% when making a double portion from a single portion recipe. Nothing scientific about it, but it works for me.
Thanks for posting the recipe. I'm looking forward to part 2 tomorrow! :)

Great looking curry there Naga!
Thanks, Stephen! I always value your opinion. I think it's a pretty good recipe and a doddle to knock up.
Lovely bit of porn there Naga :)
Cheers, MA! :)
Cracking looking curry Naga.
I'm also loving the use of chopped coriander stalks in the garnish. Little pockets of fresh coriander flavour as you work through the dish.
Grateful for your comments, Mick! I agree completely about the coriander stalks - little flavour bombs. I would normally keep the the thickest part of the bare stalks for inclusion in a base gravy, but I think its a waste just to use the leaves. Plus, I'm too lazy to strip the stalks if truth be told! :)
I like to add stalks earlier in the cook and just use leaves as garnish, lovely :)
Good stuff Naga. Might just give this a whirl today after seeing that :)
Nice. I don't think I've ever put chicken tikka in a dhansak. Yet another curry to try.
Love your style Naga
You can't beat a bit of fusion
Thinking out of the box ;)
MT
That picture has set me up for tonight's TA
Thanks MT! Looking forward to Chicken Tikka Dhansak Part Deux for dinner tonight. Can't fault SoberRat's recipe for taste or consistency - it's a good'un! :)
It certainly looks the dogs dooveries Naga. On my list to try. :) :P
Ate Part II last night, Gav. Even better than Part I! :)
Naga. My other half just saw this and said it looks fantastic, top notch and restaurant quality! I now feel inadequate... She's right mate... Marvellous.
Thanks for your kind words, Stu. I wouldn't go *that* far, but I appreciate your comments and those of your other half. :)
Hey Naga, just like all the other comments these photos look fantastic bud! Did the taste come through on the dishes also? Great cooking.
LC.

It's a really good curry, LC. I enjoyed eating it along with SP's pilau rice. Delicious! :)
SP naga?

How confusing -- I had always thought "SP" was a contraction of "Solarsplace" -- I now see I was wrong ...
