I didn't start the day intending to make a curry for dinner, but as luck would have it, I was browsing through Mick Crawford's 2nd BIR Style Cooking ebook and his South Indian Garlic Chilli Chicken recipe jumped out at me. I've got a couple of versions of this dish stashed away, but I'd never tried Mick's take on the curry.
On the side, I cooked Mick's Mushroom Fried Rice (using SP's pilau rice recipe) and threw together some of his Mint Yoghurt Sauce to dress the salad. Both of those recipes are from Mick's 1st BIR Style Cooking ebook.

Verdict? Very nice indeed! Both me and my good lady wife wolfed the curry down and these recipes are now firmly on the favourites list. It worked out very well and had a nice, light consistency and plenty of taste without being overcomplicated. Just what I needed after last Friday's disappointment. :)
The Mushroom Fried Rice and the raita were both pretty decent too and complemented the curry nicely. Another two recipes printed off for the ever-burgeoning folder!
Note: A wee confession - I didn't put any fresh chillies into the curry out of respect for my good lady wife's delicate tastebuds, but I did add a couple of generous teaspoons of Mr Naga to mine once everything was plated up. I think it would have tasted better with the fresh chillies, but hey ho, beggars can't be choosers!
I should also mention that Mick's curry recipes specifies the addition of butter ghee. It's not something I keep around the place as I was put off it a long time ago when making 'Mumrez Khan

Looks Lovely Naga. Just the consistency I aim to try to achieve with my dishes these days.
Good stuff :)

I've only just eaten a madras, but I could find some room for your plate of food.
London.

Dirty filthy PORN!!!! Great pictures Naga ;)

Naga that's the best looking rice I have seen in a while, for me good rice and good bir flavour in rice is 50% of the struggle.
Well done on your kick ass looking food 8)
Naga would you mind me asking your oil ratio for the rice?
LC.

Good looking plate there Naga. ;)
Those macro photos certainly get the appetite going.
Mushroom Pilau, got to be my favourite at the moment.
What type of coconut did you use in the curry, and how much?
cheers Chewy

...Naga would you mind me asking your oil ratio for the rice?
LC, I'm not sure if you mean the oil ratio for the original pilau or for the mushroom fried rice.
Here's the link for SP's pilau: http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,13406.msg112877.html#msg112877 (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,13406.msg112877.html#msg112877)
SP didnt actually give quantites - just ingredients and technique. I went with mickdabass's suggested quantities which, for me, was 150ml oil to 575-600g basmati and 750ml water.
If it was CBM's Mushroom Fried Rice, Mick suggests 3 tbsp oil to a single portion of pilau. I thought I'd quite enough oil going on between the curry and the pilau, so I reduced the oil to 2 tbsp for a double portion (350g cooked pilau for me) and it worked out fine.
Hope that's helpful.

Hoho, Chewy! You'll get me into bother with Mick! PM on its way. :)
-
Why not share it with all of us?

What!? ::)
Just post up the full recipe ingredients without quantities. Perfectly acceptable way of doing things and breaks no copyright.
-
Apparently, sending specific volumes of ingredients by PM is ok ;D
Which makes me ask, why post the pics of the curry if you aren't willing to share the recipe!!
-
Always grateful for advice on what I can and can't post on this forum, chaps.
You'll find the recipes here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_1?_encoding=UTF8&field-author=Mick%20Crawford&search-alias=digital-text&sort=relevancerank). :)

And here was me thinking that this was a forum to share recipes/methods/tips etc etc.
Maybe you should post your pics on Amazon too :)

:o I knew it had been too quiet over the last few days or so ;D
Well done on a great looking dish there Naga. I've yet to try that dish from the book and you certainly seemed to have awoken some interest in it ::)
Since the price of either of Mick's books is less than the price of a pint, IMHO they are a valuable addition to anybody's BIR book collection. Given the huge contribution made here by CBM, freely at no cost to us, I think out of respect, let alone copyright laws, the posting of any of his recipes is a no no, hence the posting of the link. As for the PM ing of info, i'll leave that to the individual to grapple with their own conscience ;)
Discussing the recipe in general terms as suggested by SS is an alternative option.

Tasty looking curry there Naga. Just perusing though CBM's books myself.
Rob :)
Congrats to curryhell as the new moderator too. Nice one!

I cant say much more than the rest has said Naga :)
A great looking dish there and perfect picture
Cheers MT

Yep, certainly looks good Naga. CBM's book 1 is that good I bought two.
Both his 1 and 2 books, as well as costing next to nowt, are probably the best BIR ebooks available.

That's a sweeping statement Gav, although I cannot argue with it
