My first ever attempt at growing chillies, everything from jalapeno, Indian finger to the worlds hottest recorded and beyond !!
All doing well so far, fingers crossed they continue

All looking very healthy! :)
-
Looking good. Hope you have plenty of space available for when they grow!
-
Looking good Andy. I think I'll have a go at some next season but not as many. :)
-
Space is becoming a real issue, having to give a few away.
The fun begins when they have to go outdoors!
-
In my first year of growing chillies, I naively ended up with 1200 seedlings! The following year, I reduced that to 20-odd plants. Still unmanageable! Now I grow around 12 chilli plants each year and I still end up with a surplus!
-
What types are you growing naga?

What types are you growing naga?
Nothing special or exotic- in fact, I've cut back from last year as I'm the only one in the household that's keen on a bit of heat in my food! So this year, its Cayenne (2 varieties), Kung Pao, Ring of Fire, Tabasco and Thai Hot.
-
Looking good, Andy. Can't wait to see the progress. Keep us updated :)
-
Cheers lads, will do update when there is anything worth while.
Gav if you want seeds next year let me know and I'll see what I can do ;)
-
must defrost some of my frozen chillies & see if they will germinate

must defrost some of my frozen chillies & see if they will germinate
If you succeed, try the same thing with a mammoth in the Siberian permafrost ...
-
Sometimes frozen seeds germ sometimes they don't , it's a bit hit and miss.
-
It's underway - let's see what gives
-
I'm willing to believe that frozen seed can germinate (it is recommended for some particular difficult specimens), but I am less sure that one can successfully freeze the entire seed pod (chilli) and still hope for the seed to remain viable. But of course I may be wrong, so I wish you luck and look forward to future progress reports.

No go Phil. Not a sign of germination. Must have been F1 / hybrid type.
Have ordered from web nursery Apache plants which look to have similar fruit.
-
Grown a little in a month since last pics

cooooorrrrrr they look really great - I live in Scotland and have never been able to grow them even in my (unheated) lean to greenhouse.
Lets see the results.
-
After a difficult month of June, where the night temps went down to 0c and not much higher than 7c, and the day temps struggling to get above 12c most of my plants struggled, some never recovered.
Growth was severley stunted, and all lost their flowers, but they are picking up now, not as big I as hoped but getting a lot of flowers setting now and a fair few pods.

Rubbish summer has left a lot of plants struggling this year, hoping that we will have enough sun left to ripen the rest

It's definitely been a poor summer for chilli growing. Warm, wet and grey mostly. But the chillies you've photographed look very healthy and juicy. Something's always better than nothing! :)
-
Ive had decent crops of Apache , but the ones I am interested in are the superhots which unfortunately have struggled, but as its my first year growing I have learnt a lot for next year.
The Yellow Moruga were very tasty Naga , very hot too, well happy with them. Just hoping the rest ripen :)
I have lots of seeds if you want to try next year ?

Very kind! :) PM sent.
