Title: my outside kitchen
Post by: Micky Tikka on September 29, 2014, 08:01 PM
I thought I would share with you all my out side kitchen
I needed a proper home for my tandoor and I have always thought having a WFO would be fun
Im also going to have a deep fat fryer and a big burner to cook on
I wanted it big enough to be able to prepare food inside and not going back and forth in the house
So there also will be a sink in there and a fridge freezer
As you can see not quite there yet but by this weekend it should be water tight and really no reason why I cant have ago in the WFO
Even better when in full use for tandoor and curry cooking
Cheers Michael

Bloody good work there Michael.

Yes onions you got it  :)
At the moment you can cook pizzas inside but once insulated it will ( that's what they say) stay hot for 24hrs so you can bake in it when the heat comes down
Im not a big pizza fan but I think its gonna be fun to cook in

Excuse my ignorance. When's the shed-warming party?
Title: Re: my outside kitchen
Post by: Micky Tikka on September 29, 2014, 08:52 PM
I get asked that question a lot Garp ;D
Its been ongoing for a few months now I was in no rush but I did want it water tight before the bad weather
Lets say party springtime  :)

Is the structure your own plan/design or an off the shelf shed.
If so where did you buy it?

I want one, this is awsome.

Thanks Stew  :)
All made up
Just build your frames to size fix together then put your roof on  ;)
Does help your brother in law has his own work shop around the corner and must take the credit
It has to be insulated as so no condensation gets in which would not be good for the fridge and any other electrical gadgets that might go in there

Great Job Michael

Is this just for home cooking, or are you thinking of starting a business?

Was at our local beer festival the other night and one of the street food vendors had a WFO. Rolled out a small lump of pizza dough to about 9", a splodge of one of these Cirio sauces (http://www.cirio1856.co.uk/index.php?section=prodotti&cat=1-tomatoes&page=8-salsina), some   Peppadew Mild Piquante Peppers (http://www.tesco.com/groceries/product/details/?id=273573842) chucked on and some sliced Chorizo. Grated mozzarella on top and in the oven for a few mins. They were lovely and so much so, its rekindled my must have a go at pizzas.

Off course I was drunk so didn't take a picture  :-\

It certainly looks the business Michael. Envious to say the least.

Thanks everyone
It has been on my mind to do this for a few years now for the ultimate outside entertainment
And to keep all the big smells outside  ;D
I can see extraction being a problem from the tandoor so I must get that right  :-\
Im going to keep the tandoor, cooking broilers and fryers down one end so to fit under one hood
The smoke from the WFO should go straight up the chimney  :-\
Im welcome to suggestions on what also would be good to go in there ?
Does anyone know about broiler gas rings for cooking on ( the best heat for curry cooking and big rings  ::) for a bit of bulk cooking now and again ) may be I should have 2 rings  ::)
So open to suggestions on the right equipment
Cheers Michael

Very nice Michael.  :)
I'd go all out and plump for some real power.
Get yourself a second hand wok cooker.

I'll be getting myself a 5 burner when I move house.  :)

I don't think it would  pass fire regs   :-\

And it is a good metre away from the house  :o
How about a smoke alarm  ::)

That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw the photographs ...

How about starting again, using solely non-flammable materials, and situated as far from the house as your garden will allow ?!

To be fair the WFO when finished will be all enclosed and heavily insulated with a 2inch insulating blanket then it will be boxed in up to the ceiling and filled with vermiculite
So a fire should not come from there I hope  :-\ :)

Post by: Peripatetic Phil on September 30, 2014, 08:05 PM
When you wrote "wood-burning oven", Michael, did you realise that it is usual to place the wood to be burned into the special fire-cavity part of the oven rather than simply being attached in OSB-sheet form to the back ?

** Phil.

Title: Re: my outside kitchen
Post by: Micky Tikka on September 30, 2014, 08:14 PM
Thankyou Phil  :)
I actually don't like the look of the board and probably clad with a different wood
That will make it more combustible  ;D
Title: Re: my outside kitchen
Post by: Gav Iscon on September 30, 2014, 08:18 PM
Looks safe enough to me Michael. If that's Kingspan on the inside, that's got good fire loadiing and if you're plaster boarding and skimming, there's more fire resistance. As for the smoke detector, it'll drive you insane in there. Keep us up to date with photos and especially ones of your inaugural cook out.
Title: Re: my outside kitchen
Post by: Madrasandy on September 30, 2014, 08:31 PM
Yep I 2nd that for the smoke detector, I have to remove all the batteries in ours, upstairs and down, when Im cooking  ;)
Title: Re: my outside kitchen
Post by: Micky Tikka on September 30, 2014, 08:35 PM
Thankyou Gav
The smoke alarm was tongue in cheek and your right  all kingspaned up not too sure what finish but being a plasterer plastering is the last resort  ;D

How about polished plaster ?  I have a friend in Oz who runs his own polished plaster business (http://www.polishedplaster.com.au/) out there; I am sure he would welcome a trip back home to the Old Country to give your outhouse the finish it deserves ...

Actually My first cook could be this weekend
The Wfo's flu was fitted through the felted roof ( Flu double line and insulated to take the heat away from felt  ;) )
In this state it is ready for pizza cooking then obviously once properly insulated heat can stay up to 24hrs they say then you can bake and slow cook
So you might get a picture this weekend and hopefully not a picture of the kitchen in burning embers
the following day

Flock Wall paper michael, Flock wall paper.

@Phil  :) Many many years ago I used to wonder at the cost of the marble used in all the shopping centres in Britain until I hit it with an access platform and realised it was just polished plaster. I watched a company do a shop front once, amazing (but sad, I know).

Of course.  Why didn't I think of that ?  "Fire-retardant flock wallpaper to BS 4758".  Obvious, really.

Brilliant invention.  Made some people extremely rich, and certainly fools the vast majority of those who look at it ...

Post by: Mike hunt on October 02, 2014, 01:44 PM
Gav Iscon, I work in the building trade, But a summer house with a wood burning oven requires building regulations as this will be a high output burner, Materials etc, Must be a certain distance, And require non flammable materials, Chimney must be double skinned, Chimney outlet, Plus what you burn according to your area, IE smokless zones etc,

This is where I got the idea from
I had a commercial Tandoor in the shed so I thought I would give it a proper home
I know it would not pass building regs ( I am too in the building trade  ::) )
Im not going to go through it again on how its insulated but the only place it will get hot is the opening
And Mike Im glad your not my neighbour you sound like a right grass
Chewy your spot on stainless steel around the cooking area and wood chip every else  ;)
Mattie the oven is from the woodfired oven bake company (mezzo) you can cook and bake all sorts of things
