Looks amazing that curry ch, I would love to make it but unfortunately I dont have a few of the ingredients or the means of getting to the Indian store to get them. I shall put it on my to do list though cheers
-
Have you tried UB's North India special? Excellent and a bit less complicated.
Nice reminder CH. My sister is visiting at the end of October and I'll get her to bring over the Patak's pastes, I've been meaning to try this for ages.
-
Hi fried, cant seem to find UB north India special :o

Too many glasses of wine last night, I'm getting my recipes mixed up!
This is the good one.

Too many glasses of wine last night, I thought my eyes were failing me :)
Ha ha I have just been looking at that one fried !!
-
Torn between ex-hot chicken vindaloo and acharl chicken. Might do both; BIR.
Rob :)
-
Good call fried :P Very tasty dish indeed and simple.
................and a bit less complicated.
:o :o :o not at all, but you need to have certain pre-prepped things in your fridge / freezer - CBM's tamarind sauce & CT's red masala sauce, which of course I have.
Just like all BIR dishes, once all the preps done, "simples" ;D
Must update my recipe, as i now use CBM's tamarind sauce as standard. The difference between that, Tamarina and Imli sauce being hardly discernable ::)
And CBM's sauce diluted makes a lovely dip for onion bhajis and samosa :P :P
-
I mean complicated to get hold of the Patak's pastes where I live!

I'll second that suggestion - brilliant dish and my next curry with JB's base! :)

Oooerrr, missus! :)
You were a life-saver, CH - they were just the job. Your kindness is not forgotten.
I'm well-stocked up with all sorts of goodies now after a bit of globe-trotting earlier this year, including loads of these beauties...

-
CT thanks for the Vid bud 8) Awesome !! do ya need a whip around for a new pan? We could start a PayPal link ;D
I need to cook more curry, my pans looking a little pristine in comparison :(

Must have been a big naan to warp all that in
-
Think how many quality currys that pan has helped to create though, its got loads of life left in it!! How'd it get that massive dent though?! Was it intentional as a spoon holder?!
-
LOL, ;D ;D I

Its more battered than it looks. Check out the big crease in the bottom of it where I swear its nearly through. :)

Well I made a curry but as I was completely hanging from too much wine/beer and dancing the previous night I decided to chuck anything in a pan that I had , It eneded up been a very nice curry indeed
(http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/imagehost/pics/c793ed253add06420c29859f4099f113.JPG)
Basically it was half red onion fried with half green pepper, 1ts garlic, 2ts ginger, 2ts green chilli paste, I red scotch bonnet, 3 Tb tomato puree(water added),1 ts abdul spice, 1 ts deggi mirch, pinch methi, squeeze lemon, salt to taste, coriander, jb base
It wasnt the best curry I have ever made but it was very very tasty, the scotch bonnet gave it a different flavour to what Im used too but also gave it a nice lip tingling heat. Im not sure on the garlic/ginger been 30/70 ratio(ish) though it is something I would have to try in maybe a madras where I would notice the difference more. Overall 7.5/10, not bad for a hungover anything in the pan curry! No plates needed washing afterwards either ;)

Sometimes an "off the cuff " curry is just what is needed, no expectations and no disappointments :D

Very true ch, a good test of cooking techniques also.
I may ask the same original question for tonight now, as my base is defrosting ;)

And I think most will admit this is a vital part of BIR so in this instance, MORE is better ;D
I may ask the same original question for tonight now, as my base is defrosting ;)
And my answer is the same, no time to get into the kitchen :'(
But i have the remains of the other night's curry awaiting me, the excellent vindaloo from my local TA with keema rice, saag aloo and my favourite, brinjal bhaji :P :P
-
I do love a restaurant vindaloo, can't seem to crack it though, can't get the tang
-
Tonights tea , I went for a Chicken Madras (jb Base), Pilau and Garlic Naan

Excellent results again with the jb base
-
All looking very good. I may have decanted some of the oil from the madras though for the next cook ::) Were they "happy" naans by any chance ? ;D
-
I did decant ch ;) and they sure was happy naans, and happy naan eaters :)
-
Dam you make me hungry with dem photos MA :) looking good.
-
I'm not into this oil decanting business. Another great looking curry Andy. I'm working on a thin tomato laden madras with heavy flock. Something I remember from Manchester mid 90's.
Rob :)
-
Good photography there MA. I'm salivating for another curry. Also, must make JB base soon as I'm almost out of Snoopy's.
-
Cheers rs123, it was a very nice curry indeed. Which version of snoopys base have you been using?
-
MA... Am still using Snoopy's "final" base (ironically his first one). Makes good curry.
-
Ive made the one after that which he said was better, it was good but wasnt quite there for me,and obviously not for snoopy either, definately not as good as jb base though
-
Will be making JB Base soon, perhaps next week or the week after.
I don't seem to be eating as much BIR at the moment, so my base batches last a long time.
-
Well after the kerfuffle that was HappyChris base farce, and some more failed attempts at creating a base by me, I lost a bit of my BIR enthusiasm, but jb's base has given me that back , I cant wait to cook curries again now and I am having some very very good results :)
-
rshome123 hi I also made snoopy final base as he was kind enough to mail it to me, I thought it made great curry and the parsnip made it very creamy for me :D I liked it very much as a madras.
Defiantly not a waste making a batch of his base.
-
HI lc rs123 is taking about snoopys pre-parsnip final base
(ironically his first one)
I think it was called secret base the final, snoopy then did new base recipe and then new base 2 (with parsnip ) correct me if Im wrong rs.
I had some great results with snoopys bases but never got to make the new base 2 with parsnip as I made jb's instead :)
-
Thanks for clearing that up MA I think sticking with Jb's base is the right way to go, maybe on day we will get another snip of info.
but for now I'm more than happy were I am at. :)
-
Yes, I was referring to Snoopy's initial base which he fatefully referred to as "final". Haven't tried any of his other ones... Always have had older base to use up.
-

Oh, the irony - I was going to make Snoopy's final base with parsnip, but it has taken me forever to get through the batch of the original clone base I had because I made extra. In the meantime JB posted his TA experience. Plus I've been diluting it to the consistency of JB's base - which has improved my results with it quite a bit.
I think after all the rave reviews, I am going to try JB's first. I am still curious to try the parsnips at some point to see what their effects are on the flavor, too.
-
Hi Zap you can't go wrong with Jb's base or the other great bases on this forum, but the parsnip is not the missing flavour but it did add a creamy ness to the dish.
Regards .

Indeed Zap... same situation for me. I had only just made a batch of the original "final" snoopy base, when at least 2 others popped up, then the 'BIR Curries' wild goose chase forum experiment (which I tried ... it's ok but not quite there). Now JB's base.
I'm almost afraid to make a batch of JB's base in case a new recipe appears the day after. Will try making smaller quantities in future.
