Title: I've found my nirvana
Post by: Currylingus on March 31, 2014, 11:44 PM
Hi from Hampshire! I'm a curry enthusiast who spends too much cash in takeaways. So pleased I stumbled across this site whilst googling recently as a seems like a one stop shop for chilli freaks like me. Just what I was looking for.  Looking forward to getting stuck in tomorrow night when I'll be making a base mix for the freezer. Happy days!
 :)

Stephen, you're obviously a pro can you recommend a good base to get me started on tomorrow please?  Too much choice on this site and I need someone to narrow it down.  What is you favourite one?  I'm not a complete novice so doesn't have to be too simplistic.
Oh and a good curry powder recommendation plz?
Ta!

Hi Mate

CA's or Chewytikka's base are firm favourites as is CA's spice mix.

I have great results with those!!

CL Ed's recommendations are sound as there are spice mix powders and recipes to go with both bases. There are those on the forum who like using KD base (from the Curry Secret book) and some will recommend others and CBM (curry barking mad) has a good reputation.

May I suggest just picking one base and sticking with it for a while? The ones I have used a bit are BE (Bruce Edwards - recipes to go with it too) and Ashoka (from the Scottish chain - a lot of work but very good).

I'm most familiar with Taz - very oily base but no oil added when making a curry - lots of recipes many of which I have created by modifying other recipes for the Taz base / method.
