Hello there all.
I am curry mad and always have been, i have curry pumping through my veins. Since stumbling on this site a few weeks ago, i have to tip my hat to the person(s) that got this site off the ground. Thanks a lot, its a fantastic site.
Being a brummie my favorite curry is a Balti and it has to be a good one. But i do love all sorts of curries like Ceylon and Dhansak too.
So far i have only got as far as http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php/topic,179.0.html which is Curry Kings gravy and vindaloo. My my, its an excellent vindaloo, just like from the takeaway. I have had about 6 vindaloos so far so its almost time to try something else.
I have a lot of work ahead of me getting through all the bases and recipies on here and I will give feedback after them. Balti's ahoy.
Once again thanks guys.

Welcome aboard!
How many currys do you eat in a week, I have recently cut down quite a lot but used to get through about 3 or 4 a week 8)

Hi Brummie! Welcome!
Where is the best balti is brum? This summer i was visiting the Royal Naim on the stratford road and it was really tasty http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1093.0 (http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=1093.0)
Wondering if you know of any that are as good/better.
I only get over to brum once a year, so i try to make it worth while when im there.

Ashes,
The last two times that I've visited Birmingham, I've eaten at the marvellous Al Frash on the Ladypool Road. Get some tinnies in the offie down the road and Bob's your uncle.

Yep, all the best places are in that part of the world ;D

Hi Ash.
Well you certainly can't go wrong if you go to LadyPool Road, Sparkhill/Sparkbrooke. That's the home of the balti and where it originated. There are also too many balti houses to count as well. Your hardest decision is which one to go in, there litterally are too many there.
My other favorites are;
Balti Garden - Run by Bangladeshi's not indians - Corner of Manor Park Road/Chester Road, Castle Bromwich. Small tidy restaurant above a Cafe with truely excellent Balti.
Titash - Coventry Road Sheldon, (at the big set of traffic lights, on the right hand side if you are heading towards Birmingham City Centre) medium sized excellent restaurant. All curries are lovely, excellent balti's.
Shahimilal - Coleshill Road, Ward End. (At the traffic lights opposite corner to the Fox and Goose Pub) Small restaurant with excellent food.
I myself am not entirely sure what is in a balti, i have tried and tried my hardest to get a recepie off a balti chef, but they will never part with the information. I can only assume its some sort of carrot/onion base and has some fenugreek in.
I have read that other thread, might try that place myself if i find myself over that way one day.

Yes Brummie - Royal Naim does a nice balti ;D. I think all those balti places use similar spices but each has its own secret base sauce recipe. They use a lot more brown cardamoms, fenugreek, coriander, and aromatic spices than the standard BIR, it shouldn't have much heat either.
There is a book available, written by a restaurant owner. I haven't tried to make any of his recipes yet, but it looks pretty good.

Some people here have tried it and said it was nice but its not like an Indian restaurant curry, which it shouldn't be, if its a "proper" balti. There are also balti recipes on cr0, just do a search.

Ashes, please don't take this the wrong way, I am not having a dig at you but the viewers at large; but hasn't there just been a lot of spats and insults over digression from the Topic, of which Darth and I received the ful blast. ::) ::) ::) As some would point out less politely, we have a section for recommending curry houses. See your PM mate.
Cheers

I already recommended the curry house under restaurant reviews, as far as i can see there wasn't a digression, just welcoming brummie and pointing him in the right direction.
No offence taken ;D
Kind regards
