Title: Coconut health warning
Post by: George on October 28, 2013, 02:34 PM
We all know most curries are unhealthy and that coconut is one of several very fattening ingredients.

The following report raises even greater concern:

Why would you say that 'most curries are unhealthy'?    Fresh ingredients and spices.  You don't have to add coconut although I do occasionally.  But the fact that this guy suffered a major reaction hardly means it's detrimental to everybody's health.  In fact, the vast majority of humans who eat coconumt cream/milk don't suffer any acverse side effects.  It's a staple in some countries such as Thailand.

Any health advantages of fresh ingredients and spices are massively outweighed by huge quantities of fat and salt.

I make only enough base sauce for one meal so I know exactly how much oil goes into it - 60ml.
That's bad enough but then, as Phil recommends, you need a further 4 or 5 tbls oil for the final curry so that's another 60ml or 75ml or oil. The total is therefore 120 - 135ml of oil, all scoffed in one tasty dish. Are you going to try telling me that's good for me or anyone?
