Thanks for this bob. I was killing myself thinking what to cook today! a tikka dopiaza with extra garlic and chilli sounds perfect "sunday roast" material. 8)
I can't seem to source the shatkora pickle here, only the frozen fruit which is a bit tart. Is the pickle considerably better Bob? Would you go to the lengths of importing it from another country?
edit: Is it me or does he add some shatkora slices in the frying stage?

Not sure Goncalo. Haven't tried a shatkora pickle in a curry as yet. I've got two: Pran and Nicobena. Both are uber zingy. I think I'll try the Pran for the dopiaza, as Chewy has mentioned this brand before on the forum. Didn't spot the slices. Will have another look, or two. I like this chef. Micks' uploaded some more cracking vids recently.

I think I may have confused the "green peppers", as in a few frames it appears to have more of a lime shade of green (I also hadn't watched the video til the end where I see the addition of the pickled shatkora)
I bought recently a "priya citron pickle" (lemon and garlic, I think) so I am going to try it.

Shatkora is a bengali seasonal fruit, of a lemon, that is grown in Sylhet. I heard that in scotland the BIRs are mostly owned by pakistani and indian punjabis, hence there is probably less of a market for these pickles than there is further south is my half-arsed theory. I'm even surprised how we can find the frozen shatkora here in Dublin... :)

To be honest I wouldn't rush out and buy this one. It's pretty minging with mustard oil. Could I suppose be a nice addition to a curry, although I think the Pran shatkora pickle is favourite. I've taken two jars so far to my local TA and both have vanished. Pretty certain they've ended up in a staff curry. Shatkora is a must try ingredient though Stephen. There is nothing like it. I have made a few outstanding curries with frozen shatkora. The frozen fruit, or, so I am told, fresh (when in season), or a decent pickle, is the way to go.

and I've had several "shatkora jalfrezis" from a BIR In Cambridge, which were to die for. I've never really managed to get the depth of flavour though... :)

Tonight's curry
I've just cooked and eaten this fantastic tasting curry I'm still sweating its at least vindaloo strength and too hot for the wife but she's had a decent portion! With the addition of the pran satkora pickle it's one of the best I have ever tasted! Not for the faint hearted i will make it again but to keep the wife happy I will hold back on the chillies! I've served it with chick pea, onion and green pepper ghee rice.

That looks great Bob. The pran shatkora certainly adds a zing to a curry. ;)
-
Thanks Gav I'm going to use the satkora in other curries I've only just discovered this and I like the taste.

Very nice Spread Bob. 8)
CBM's Garlic Chicken Tikka Dopiaza, such a great curry! A firm favourite of mine, in fact I went through a stage of cooking this dish to perfection!
One of the all time greats ;)

Hi littlechilie will have to go and stock up on the satkora pickle it hard to get your hands on its here in Sheffield. I washed the curry down with some of Sheffield finest real ale spoiled for choice! LOL

I'll echo the previous comments - that looks a brilliant spread! I've never tried satkora - maybe I've missed is up here in the shops. But I need to stock up soon, so I'll keep my eye out for a jar to try. Thanks for posting those pics - nice! :)
And I *do* like a pale ale or 3! :)

One Big like for real Ale ;) I spent a little time living and working in Dorset, there I discovered and indulged heavily with ringwood49er 8) perfect Ale.
But back to the dish in question, I think this dish stands up tall without the inclusion of satkora pickle, just incase you can't get any one time. I believe it's still well worth the time cooking it.

I've only recently started drinking the real ale! But regarding the satkora yes i agree this currie would still stand up without it.

Lovely job there CAB. And i think you chose the perfect accompaniments for that cracking looking meal. It certainly beats my bag of KP nuts, although they were washed down with a couple of Leffes ;) At least, not all of us have deserted the kitchen. Keep up the good work mate :)
