Having watched the series with mixed interest, and a niggling doubt that splashing a bit of bbc cash around wont lead to any amazing discoveries, I feel the posted recipies prove me right.
I could be wrong, but some of those recipies posted on the rick stein bbc site look pretty disappointing.
any members tried any of the rick stein recipies?
Yes, after enjoying the series I bought the book which is well written with beautiful colour photos throughout. I've tried a few so far, two fish curries and a black dal. One of the fish curries was excellent, the other just ok. The dal tasted ok, but went a strange green curry which didn't look good!
There are loads more I'm keen to try and am sure many more will be excellent as well.
I made the Egg Molee (whole eggs in coconut masala) on page 104. It was nice. The eggs don't look overly boiled in the book, and I used a couple of big organic ones. When I sliced them in two they were a bit wobbly and lost their shape, which spoiled the appearance of the dish somewhat.
A while back a chef gave me a spicy Bengali egg curry (Dim bhuna) made by his wife at home. Probably the best curry I've ever had in my life. That really was what you call a mind-blasting curry Ricky!
Rob :)
I have never tried a Rick Steins curry, it doesnt sound too good ???
We recently watched a 6 episode documentary of his, he was in India, it was fantastic, all the different curries from different parts of India :)
