Following on from Rich's recent post for an Indian breakfast dish, I thought i'd post this.
I first had this just after 6am in Baroda waiting for the first dish to light up on the 60's menu lightbox in an old dimly lit cafe. ;D
I had no idea what it was going to be but was starving after travelling up from Mumbai and as it was the only dish ready, that was my choice.
It was fantastic! Since then, i have made the dish many times using Vahchefs recipe and its just the same as it was that first time in India.
The only difference to that and Sanjay's recipe, was the addition of a handful of small diced potatoes which i also add.(parboiled)

Now that's what I call fast food! Look's really delicious and very easy too. I have never tried the pressed rice, but have seen it often in the supermarkets. I shall be picking some up next time I come across it.
Frank do you think it would matter too much if the only poha I can find is the thinner type?

I dont think there's that much difference between them Malc, as on a couple of occasions i had to ask myself, "Is that really the thick one?" ???
And yes, very easy to make and packed with flavour and texture. 8)

Thanks Frank, i'll pop into one of the local 'Indian' stores and see if they have both. As someone who could happily devour a bowl of plain rice, i'm very much look forward to trying this.
The thicker poha in the video does seem more substantial though.

I'm already a big fan of "Batata Poha" and "Mattar Poha" (with additional potatos and/or peas), and always wanted to try out some "Upama"-recipe (usually, made of semolina - sooji). This one looks very nice!

My wife makes this as she is Indian. I'm not keen on it myself, it's just a dry rice flake type of stir fry with spices and potato.
