Title: a couple of questions
Post by: goncalo on March 02, 2013, 08:18 PM
So I bought a bottle of ktc's pure coconut oil. Has anyone used it to cook a korma or ctm and if so were the results any good? I'm just assuming it would enhance the coconutty flavour further, which in my case, would be greatly welcome (not to mention the health benefits associated with it)

Also, I have a bag of "cumin whole", east end I believe, are these cumin seeds and can I use them in pilau rice recipes that call for cumin seeds?

Thanks,
Goncalo

So long as they look like this [1], yes.  But you will probably enjoy your pulao rice more if you use kala jeera ("black cumin") rather than the creamy coloured one that I suspect you have.

Thanks, presumably this will do? I found them in my bag of wholes and seeds :-)

YES !  They're the ones.  I put far more of those in my pulao than I do (say) fennel seeds.

What you have there is black cumin or shahi jeera. In my opinion it's far superior to regular cumin. Works great for jeera potatoes, rice and especially with lamb. They are actually a fruit like cumin, fennel, arjwain, etc. but everyone refers to them as seeds.

Thanks for educating me with regards to cumin. I couldn't discern the difference, tbh! :-)
