Title: Any decent Base and Rogan Josh Recipe?
Post by: ramsded1992 on January 15, 2013, 05:50 PM
I've cooked Julian's C2G Base and recipes but I can't seem to get that taste?

I've tried a variety of different bases on here as well but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone got a good base recipe as well as a Rogan Josh recipe?

Thanks.

May I suggest that if you have not only had problems with Julian's base but also several others on here that you may actually being doing something wrong at the cooking stage. Can you give some clearer and more specific examples and peeps may be able to spot what may be going wrong.

You could of course try the Glasgow one listed but that is more of a finished sauce. May help though.  ;)

Ramsded I'd hate to put you off searching for your personal 'taste' but I've been looking for well over a decade and still haven't found it. None of the recipes on this site, good though many of them are, match the savouriness and unique aroma of curries I used to have in the 80's.  I suppose I'm saying don't build your hopes too high. :(

SS I made a Rogan Josh last night for the first time using a recipe I created with Taz base and method - if this is any use to you I'll post it but if not just ignore this message - I won't be offended honest!

Stephen I wasn't specifically talking about the Rogan Josh I actually meant (savoury) curries in general. That said I'd still be interested in your recipe. I have tried Razor's which many people raved about but I found it lacklustre. Now I don't mean that as an insult to Razor or his recipe, in itself it was a very decent curry, but it has a lot to live up to, i.e. the 80's curries I knew and loved. And in that sense it just joins the many other curries, including my own, that disappoint.

Try this, a nicely spiced, rich flavoursome dish.

Have you actually read my previous post. Try looking. Scroll down to the recipe as suggested. I fail to see the the problem is albeit I agree that recipes for RJ are perhaps more sparse on here than some of the other favourites.

Welcome to the site by the way.  ;)
