Tried this one last night to outrageous success ;D
Place the unpeeled garlic bulbs into a largeish container with a lid on. You then vigorously shake the container about like it's a cocktail shaker for around a minute. I did 250gms of bulbs last night in seconds. The result is that the skins get rubbed off by the friction inside the container - simply pick out the skins from the bulbs, voila!
Enjoy, no more using the side of a knife and pressing down, etc, etc.
Martin
Nice tip. Thanks
This works! Which is surprising, because it can be a booger to peel. Nice one Martin.
Pleasure's all mine!
I haven't posted here for a while but got such a lot from Panpot's contributions; this is a tiny input by me but more to follow...curries with alcohol added! Big in my local BIR in Central Scotland.
Mmmmmm. Tried this the other day and nothing happened. Perhaps wrong type of containers or I didn't shake long or hard enough >:(
It is hard work! But easier than peeling them individually.
I assume you separated the cloves first?
Yessir, just split them up into individual bulbs. I found that a tall plastic tumbler thingy from Tupperware worked well as it allowed for lots of up and down movement as I shook like CRAZY!
Ive tried this method a few times but it never really worked for me.
It could be down to the size of the bowl(s) used.

Just checked out the video. For the record I'm splitting open the head then separating the bulbs into the bowl/dish. I'm not cracking or bashing any of the cloves. It's a workout but it is much quicker, lol!

Hi Guys
Ive not posted for a while but ive been an avid reader :D , i find this method works even better if you place a few powerballs inside the container and then shake like bloomin crazy , maybe to the the tune of IRON MAIDENS "Phantom of the opera" the old lucozade advert lol .
Power balls? You mean those super doper high bouncing hobbies? :o
Thats right RoobyDoo i pinch them off my son :D the smallish ones around 1" in diameter, i suppose i pinched the idea from a ball mill in a quarry lol, anytthing would do really , you could try some nuts n bolts maybe hahaha
Great addition, Yakmandoo, that'll tear it up! Any weight in there being thrown about will help.
