Someone has posted OUR entire Madras thread on http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbfood/F2670471?thread=3423181&skip=0&show=20
& has stated it is their recipe, they have even had the blatant cheek to just copy & paste the entire thing & just post it over on the BBC site. ;D
This recipe is from my local Bir who filled in the missing ingredients after several years harassing them about it, no one person deserves the credit for it, as far as I'm concerned it belongs to all of us here at cr0 online & sharing it with all of you is part of the buzz that i think we all get from successfull cooking ventures, cr0 members have given so much & inspired many to persue unwilling Bir staff. ;D
Petalgirl on the BBC site is a very sad individual, but it gave me something to laugh at today ;D ;D
P.S. A big thank you to cr0 member richclever for the heads up ;) :)

I am shocked at this and disgusted but at least you found out and lets hope their moderation team do the dignified thing. Our site now will hopefully pick up a fresh bunch of enthusiasts as a result and we can all benefit from this.
Keep the faith Darth, by the way I intend to thank you and others for the success of my curry nite on Saturday last once I can figure how to get the photographs posted along with my text.

Unfortunately this sort of thing happens all the time on the net as it's all to easy to do, at least she has been found out and should now be ridiculed by her fellow forum members :D
As PanPot says it should also help bring in some new members for cr0 8)

BBC members this way lol ;D

Actually its copyright infringement and plagerism! But im sure it was done with the right intention. Although credit should be given where credit is due
The thing is when u search for a topic on a search motor like Google, the link that comes up first is the one that has generated the most hits (I think it works something like that). Im surprised when searching for "curry recipes" that we arent number 1 on the link list, although we havent got the largest traffic in the world (yet) we have the most consistent (thanks to this incredible forum). If you count the amount of people who log in each and every day or just come as a guest everyday, each year then we should be up their with the best. Unfortunately if ppl want curry recipes they will get http://www.curryfrenzy.com/ (http://www.curryfrenzy.com/) or another top list link.
Maybe if everyone used Google each day and searched for Cr0 and clicked on the link we should bump up our place on the link page and thus generate even more hits?
Just a thought ::)
-
If it can be copyrighted i would like it to be owned by us IE members, admins & owners of cr0.
But its no big deal just amusing the lengths people will go to get respect etc...etc... lol ;D
-
Actually Darth all recipes on this site are the intellectual property of their respective authors. The same goes for pictures, photos and webdesign. You need permission to publish anything you find on the web. Thats why alot of people link to sites instead of directly copying information. Then again, you could take a picture or information or a design and change it to such an extent that it becomes your own work, thus navigating around the copyright laws. To be honest there arent any internet police ready to arrest people and copyright infringement is mostly enforced by goverments on behalf of the entertainment industry.
Theorectically you could sue the person who copied your recipe, but youll get alot further by giving them a word slap ;). Actually the best bet is to just feel proud, how many people get their recipes copied to the beeb??! gg dood! ;D
-
i just went on the website that darth gave in his post and on page 2 near the bottom of the page theirs member called the fat chef and says that petalgirl has never worked in a restaurant has she says she have, also she should come to this site and apologize to darth for whats she`s done.
-
Lol causing a ripple in the underworld of Curries ;D ;D.
This is really good for us peeps, free advertising on BBC!!!! ;D ;D
-
Darthphall,
You are now famous in my eyes....amazing 8)
Im surprised when searching for "curry recipes" that we arent number 1 on the link list
I think we are number 6 if you search on http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=curry+recipes&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB
Thats good
-
Yes its good for us, hurrraarrrr for cr0 ;D ;D
-
I think that with the input we have on this site , it is only a matter of time before we are #1 ! :)

The way google ranks websites is accrording to your page rank or PR.
This is complex but in essence google ranks your site based on links from like minded sites linking to you.
For example google has PR10 or page rank 10 which means its the best everyone links to it.
Cr0.co.uk is only a PR2 at the moment, i am trying to build up backlinks with like minded sites and we are predicted PR3 at the next Google Update.
So if you want to help if you have a website put our link on it, or if you are visiting a website leave our link in the links sections this will help us.
Heres the technical stuff on Page Rank
PageRank is a patented method to assign a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of "measuring" its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references.
PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank [Vise and Malseed, 2005]) and Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine, which still has PageRank as a key element.
In other words, a PageRank results from a "ballot" among all the other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is. A hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a page is defined recursively and depends on the number and PageRank metric of all pages that link to it ("incoming links"). A page that is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for that page.
Numerous academic papers concerning PageRank have been published since Page and Brin's original paper. In practice, the PageRank concept has proven to be vulnerable to manipulation, and extensive research has been devoted to identifying falsely inflated PageRank and ways to ignore links from documents with falsely inflated PageRank.
Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course, important pages mean nothing to you if they don't match your query. So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page's content (and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it's a good match for your query.

Great stuff Stew - now its time for the rest of us to get to work and spread the word ! :)

I couldn't believe it when I saw the post on the bbc, which is why I had to reply and let Darth know.
I only made darth's base and madras for the first time the other day and it went down a storm with the people I was cooking for. Told them where I got the recipe from too as well as various people in the UK when I was back in July.
What a cheek though, copy and pasting direct from here with the same formatting and everything!!
Admin, I know various sites that I can recommend the site on here in France (where the curries are awful), so I will start getting the site listed on them. I'd put one on my own but as I'm a web designer and that is what my site is about I don't think that'll help with your page rank (I have a 4 for mine). Saying that, I am thinking of a links page that will have IT related stuff and usefull links for the expat over here so you never know.
Richard

yes i`m also in the middle of doing my first website and i will use the cr0 link on my site now that the admin has given permission to do so.thank you admin.
if anyone is thinking about doing their own website i came across this site.

Hi all, from a BBC food forums member. Just registered here, thanks to RichClever mentioning the site. V clever really, turning a ripoff into recruitment drive. Much kudos. <thumbs up cheffycon>
-
Yus risby we are a positive Lot here at cr0, as CC says its about time we got to #1.
In fact now its time for the BBC to give us our own slot somewere between 5pm & say 8pm...Curry Recipes online... only on primetime !!!! ;D ;D :D
-
Well, first new member, hopefully the first of many from the beeb.
Maybe we should thank petalgirl over at the beeb!! :P
Rich
-
Lol nice one rich ;D
And thanks to petalgirl for the free advertising for us bunch of good Eggs here at cr0.
-
Richclever, I don't know if you're rich, but you are indeed clever to recognize Darth's recipe and point it out as such. Darth went through a lot to get and refine that recipe, and he deserves all the credit. Actually, it's kind of sad that petalgirl can't give praise where it's due, but wants all the glory for herself. But that's no excuse!
-
Words well spoken merrybaker , but at least all of us here know where all the credit lies . Unfortunately there will always be " posers " like petalgirl who will assume the perpetual role of a glory-hound .

darth and richclever i went back to the bbc.co.uk site and in it funny how the name petalgirl has now change to the following (wildastonvilla/trollhunter) and yet still claims that the recipe is theirs and not ours.
-
....petalgirl...(wildastonvilla/trollhunter)......still claims that the recipe is theirs and not ours.
Hi Bart,
With respect Bart, I think you may have misunderstood what she was trying to say?. As I read it, I think she was simply agreeing that she was the original poster of Darthphall's recipe on the BBC site. She was not laying claim to being the the originator of the recipe itself. I think she was also saying that the recipe is so similar, to the one used in the restaurant that she worked in, that she simply copied and pasted Darth's recipe to the BBC site.
I reckon Darthphall should be flattered that others rate his recipes sufficiently highly to copy and paste them to other sites! Good on you matey! 8)
-
I read it that petalgirl was up to no good in copying Darth's recipe. If she really has worked in a BIR, she should come up with some more compelling evidence. She only confessed after confronted by richclever et al.
Regards
George

Sorry George, my point was simply that Bart seemed to think that she was claiming to be the originator of the recipe. She is not claiming that.....irrespective of anything else... :)

Only because she has been rumbled!
Realising the games up she's come out with a posting that makes no sense what so ever, not to mention the change of name so to confuse anyone who reads the thread.
-
This is what he or she has posted today!!
if you bother to read my post, it is almost the same way they made it in the take-away I worked in so I just pasted it from the website I visit as I could not bother to write it all down, to be honest in the take-away I worked they also add radishes to the above recipe.
I think we should give this person the benefits of the doubt and invite her on to the site to share her recipes.... she has got the site buzzing on the BBC site...I think questions may be asked in government.
;)
-
Me thinks we should summon " Special Branch " . ;)
-
;D nice one, but radishes?? anyone heard of this?
-
Bruce Edwards base uses radishes if I remember correct.

I agree we should be nice to her (I assume female) because she might have some original, fresh observations to pass on. But the fact of the matter is that she opened with the statement: " I worked in an indian take-away for 3 months, if there is enough intrest I will post the secret scroll of curry making." This then led to a straight paste of Darth's recipe without any other (relevant) comment. The implication, to say the least, was that it was a recipe direct from her employer's take away. She only came clean when rumbled, as CK has said.

George
-
Lol admit it you've been rumbled big time by lord DARTHPHALL'S ever watchfull apprentices at cr0.co.uk, good old Darkside never fails to catch copy & paste rebels lol : )
Your feeble recipe stealing skills are no match for the power of the darkside : )
Hehehehehehe !!!!
Made me laugh good job Darth!
-
Hey ;D ;D didn't think many here would see that one lol, looks like Ive been rumbled ;D,
I suppose we need to consider how cr0.co.uk will conquer the universe next !!!
"the Vindalloo sauce at cr0.co.uk is now the ultimate power in the universe ..i suggest
we use it"!
-
Maybe she "accidently" forgot to mention the fact the recipe was Darth's from this site when she first posted it, or maybe not.
In any case, I agree that we should possibly give her the benefit of the doubt now and ask her to join us and share any knowledge she has if she did indeed work in a takeaway for three months. If she did this I am sure we would all welcome her to our hapy little group.
Rich
-
It's even possible that the chef at the BIR where she worked found Darth's recipe and uses it!
Or maybe she worked at the very same BIR that Darth learned his recipe from. ;D
-
Lol someone called RealCurryKing made a post about her & at the end put "What a scab"!
Is that you CurryKing ? ;D ;D ;D
"The recipe wars of 2006"! ;D
-
Ouch , thats gotta hurt . ;)
-
I think its a bit unfair to condemn the girl when she isnt here to defend herself. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The important thing is that the world is now aware of Darths great curry!! And I for one will be trying it out pretty soon (blush), looks like ive been missing out.
