Had a heavy cold for a couple of day's and I tend to nip it in the bud, with plenty of drugs, honey and hot lemon drinks.
I always find a Vindaloo is always good to compliment the remedy.
Wasn't in the mood for cooking, so ordered from my mates Restaurant.
Malai Tikka starter, a bit salad and mint sauce. Peshwari Naan, Spicy Chutney.
Instead of a Vindaloo, I went for an Adraki Chicken with extra chillies and a portion of Phall sauce.
I didn't even bother plating it up, just stood there and munched away as I opened them up.
Certainly hit the spot and did the trick with the cold symptoms, must be all the vitamin C in the fresh chillies, ginger etc...
It is a shame its not all available on the NHS. ;D
cheers Chewy

You just need a bottle of Lagavulin in the background.

12 years old and battered with a heavy Chef's spoon, serious amount of curry history.
Also melted a bit when I left it on the gas, TWICE. ::)
Still use it as it kind of fits like a glove

It's a well known fact, that Chilies contain more vitamin C than oranges, and are undoubtedly a great cold remedy...
Hope you feel better soon Mike :)

Just admiring the oil separation on that phall sauce. Looks great! Get well soon CT.

Hi Chewy
I had one of those cold last week - hopefully yours will be gone in a day or so too!
Treated mine with your Madras recipe and lots of CBM's onion salad for the vitamin C.
Get well soon!
Cheers

Now that's my idea of a cold remedy!
A damn hot curry has always worked wonders for cold relief. Not only do you get the vitamin C benefits of the chillies, but they also release endorphins, which act as the body's natural painkillers (as well as giving you a much needed feelgood factor.) They also act as a natural decongestant, bringing relief quickly without any side effects at all. With a full stomach and the ability to breathe temporarily restored, it is often much easier for someone with a cold to get the sleep the needed to fight off the virus. The capsaicin in chillies also helps the veins and arteries to open up and begin to flush out elements that could eventually lead to blockages in the body. Then there's the garlic, ginger, turmeric and... And I could bang on all night about curry being the ultimate health food, but I've done so elsewhere in this forum already, so I'll STFU and wish a full and speedy recovery, Chewy.
But before I go, I must say that phall sauce looks superb. So many restaurants round my way get it so badly wrong, and serve what looks (and tastes) like a foil container of chilli powder to which base gravy has been added and stirred in.
Just looking at that picture of yours is making me salivate, and I've only just finished off tonight's Chewy style Madras!

Feeling better already ;D Thanks
The Phall was spicy hot enough and nearly as good as mine ;D ;D ::)
But the chutney was brand new and the dogs/amazing.
Definitely going to twist Chef Kohinoors arm for his recipe.
Thanks guys, Chewy

beats my remedy 1 vitamin c & 1 zinc tablet every 3hrs for 1 or 2 days.
never seen adraki but going to have to look out for it.
one word of caution being not to mix chilli with saw throat - it's horrific - only time i've never finished a curry.
-
Never heard of the Adraki before now, what's in it Mike?
EDIT: Found it on the web, a dish flavoured with ginger. Sounds lovely, just watching Atul Kochar making a version of it.

If you suffer from blocked sinuses - cold or no cold - I can thoroughly recommend Nigella Lawson's take on Hot and Sour Soup (http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/516269). Not BIR (and maybe not even near-authentic), but it fairly empties your tubes! A bit like Nigella herself lol! :)
