Title: Stick Blender
Post by: emin-j on November 25, 2012, 02:42 PM
Hi all  ;) can  anyone recommend a good stick blender ? I recently bought a Kenwood Tri Blade and that lasted about five minutes  :-\ It seems most blenders have a runtime of about 1 minute then rest for 5 minutes  ::)

I got one from little and it's still going fine after a couple of years, much longer than more expensive ones I've had previously.

Lidl near me have a special on next week for Silvercrest blenders unfortunately I live in France, so I don't know the U.K situation. All my Silvercrest kit works fine.

emin-j - Lidl's are doing one for 11.99 just now - 600W - I've had mine for 2 to 3 years now and it's perfect for blending base.

Bought one 2 months ago after using a food blender for ages, massive improvement in results and time saved.
I spent forever choosing as there are so many poor reviews of the cheaper ones out there and found a Philips which turned out to be a genuine bargain, this one looks like the model to have superseded it:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9349779.htm (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9349779.htm)

Probably is the same thing with different add-ons and is advertised with a similar discount to mine.
Anyway anything I'd seen under ?20 meant some kind of compromise so at ?33 this one is ?3 more but has additional extras.

Point being the one I have is a monster, feels nice an sturdy with the stick part being completely metal.
It has standard and turbo mode with turbo dragging it down and pinning it to the bottom on the gravy base pot.
Total beast!
Easy clean and had it on for a over 3 minutes on a large pot without it cutting out.

There are many so called reductions out there but if this is the same as mine (looks exactly like it) and even if it was never priced at ?53 rest assured it is fifty-three pounds worth of kit.

Via SWMBO, we have an original Bamix stick blender with all the accessories including a spice grinder - must be at least 25 years old - I believe it was a wedding present from a former marriage  ;D and it's running as good as new. I keep if for special tasks like base gravies but for other blending jobs I use a supermarket cheapie as I'd like to keep the Bamix going for a few years yet.

I've destroyed a couple of cheapies during my curry career so far. However on checking, the current Bamix is now fearfully expensive.  :o However if you ever come across a second hand one in a charity store or whatever, grab it.

i use the argos one at ~4 pounds. i just get a new one when it's broke. last's between 1 and 2 yrs.

don't put it in when the base is too hot - melts the plastic (quite a nice shape)

Also worth waiting for Lidl to do the white one again. Same make but comes with jug, whisk attachment and small blender / mixer thingy which is useful. ?14.99 I think. I don't use the whisk much but the jug and the bowl attachment thing are always out. Also handy that the stick is detachable, a feature not often found on cheaper end sticks.

I bought one, but was really worried that only one of the two blades had a ground edge.  Took it back, intending to swap it, but found the others were the same.  What about yours, Chris ?

Did you try using it before taking it back? Mine has a ground edge on either end of the SINGLE blade. Not exactly Wusthof quality but hey - ?15 squids?
