Horrible.

This guys cred went straight out the window for me when he added water from the hot tap at about 5m15 seconds, this is an absolute no, no in any form of cooking. You should never, ever use hot water from the hot tap in cooking, but only water freshly boiled from cold.

Terrible practice.

Thanks for posting W. If i'm ever up that way i'll pop in to Ady's and definitely give it a go ;D I don't see me finishing the whole dish though :-\.  I think i may just try a halfway house just to get  a feel for it.  I've still got my "naga" paste courtesy of Ali's recipe from the Viceroy Brasserie.  It's pretty damn hot.  The only thing i'm missing is the jahlzala paste :(  Everything else is a stock item, other than a replacement a*******e for the next morning  ;D ;D :'( :'( :'(

And i will boil the kettle  ;)

I seem to agree with this too. I think his comment shows spontaneity and/or naivety as well. Not only he pulled the pan out of the heat and started losing heat instantly while moving it around, he further decreased it by topping up with hot water from the tap which obviously wouldn't have built up to a relatively high temperature. Furthermore, the claim is that hot water will generally be running for longer periods in the boiler/tank water and it may help "drag" and "carry" particles of lead from the pipes which is detrimental to health.

Exactly.

You should never use water from the hot water system for cooking or drinking, but freshly drawn water from the cold tap in the kitchen which in most houses is plumbed directly to the mains supply.

Obviously to be seen as a bit of fun/gimmick/publicity stunt.
This may be Ady's baby but seeing Julian participate in it really has been a dissapointment for me.

Because up until I viewed that vid I appreciated his knowledge on the subject. As far as I'm concerned he has cheapened himself. I can't be bal*sed watching it all again to pick out the bits and pieces that I found codswallop... Just my personal view!

With regards to the hot water, I can see the point if it comes from a hot water tank through old plumbing but mine comes from the cold supply straight through the heat exchanger in my combi boiler and to the mixer tap 2 metres away. I really can't see a problem using it for cooking as opposed to boiling a kettle.

And the videos quite clearly a bit of larking about. The Rupali in Newcastle, ran by he late Abdul Latif - The Lord of Harpole, used to do a Curry Hell which was claimed to be the hottest curry in Britain and if you could eat it, it was free. Here's Gordon Ramsay having a go
