I've been after a pressure cooker for a while, but strapped for cash so the dog's bollocks stainless steel all-singing/dancing model I wanted is out of the question at the moment.

Then I saw that Argos are doing a third off this baby:

Hi SD i got a pressure cooker from Tesco (Tower 7 Litre)but wasn't any good, the amount of pressure build up in cooker didn't really save time on cooking, think it was a 7 psi.

Thanks Unclefrank - some good info there.

In fact I've just cancelled the order.

I'm an impulsive sod at the best of times, but when it comes to cookware it has to be good quality - and work.

I'll put the 26 quid towards a state of the art number...

I missed that thread, but despite some intensive research looking for the psi rating on that Tower, like you I couldn't find any. I did read somewhere that if no psi rating is specified, then it's usually because it's at the lower end of the scale.

It may be that the Tower 7L is the bargain of the century, but I had my heart set on a 15psi stainless one - preferably with the latest state-of-the-art technology that not only cooks your base to perfection in 10 minutes, but automatically blends it and is entirely operable via your smartphone or tablet....

Have to say that Argos were brilliant when I called to cancel. Instant refund to my card and I was on the phone for 2 minutes max.

Hi SD,
I've been wanting to try a small pressure cooker for single and double portions since peppering the whole kitchen with orange coloured oil  ::)
((I also did a big cook last friday for 15 people on my own. HARD WORK!!   There was a perfectly formed clean square at the end of the night when i removed my burner from the white plastic garden table  ;D))

The smallest size for a good price i can find is 3ltr, although 2ltr would probably be better. But then they get really expensive or compromise on the diameter.  The 3ltr is about 9", so a perfect size for single and double portions.

I can see that further research is reequired before making the plunge. (I've definitely decided on a 7-litre stainless steel job, but which one will be the subject of much deliberation.)

Glad to hear your 15-strong cooking session went well too. You're dead right about it being hard work - I was knackered after mine, and I'm used to a bit of graft.

As for orange splattered kitchens, while I consider it a badge of honour after an intense curry session, it isn't viewed in the same light by others. I get through so much bleach I'm thinking about buying shares in Domestos! ;)
